Gusto Gold: An End-to-End Enterprise ERP for Jewelry Manufacturing

Gusto Gold manufactures gold and diamond jewelry for retail chains and wholesalers around the world. We built them an enterprise production ERP that brings the whole operation — from bullion intake to finished-goods shipping — into a single system. It is in active use and still being developed.

In short: Gusto Gold (Özname Kuyumculuk San. ve Tic. A.Ş.) is a large Istanbul-based manufacturer of gold and diamond jewelry. Off-the-shelf ERP packages could not handle the gram, fine gold and karat logic of jewelry production, so Skysoft built an enterprise production ERP covering the entire process from bullion intake to finished-goods shipping. Manufacturing, pricing and shipping are now tracked in one system; the software is live and still being extended.

The Challenge

Jewelry manufacturing does not fit standard ERPs.

Most ERP packages count products in units. In jewelry, the language of the operation is different from the outset: stock is measured in grams and fine gold content, not in pieces. The same model becomes an entirely different product depending on its karat and width; change the length and the weight, and therefore the price, changes with it. On top of that, price moves along with an exchange rate and a fine gold value that shift through the day.

Then comes the reality of production itself. Weight, karat and wastage have to be tracked at every stage from bullion intake to finished-goods shipping, and it must be possible to see how much gold went from which bullion into which job. Packaged software tries to patch these rules in after the fact, and the result is familiar: the operation's critical calculations end up scattered across Excel files and the memories of a handful of people.

  • The stock unit is not the piece; it is gram, fine gold and millesimal fineness
  • A single model opens into dozens of variants through karat × width × length
  • Price changes through the day with the exchange rate and the fine gold value
  • Weight, karat and wastage must be recorded at every stage
  • Customer-specific prices and hallmark / karat compliance rules
The Solution

We wrote the industry's rules into the core of the software.

Skysoft followed Gusto Gold's processes on site and built an end-to-end production ERP. Every module was designed around the logic of jewelry manufacturing itself.

Bullion intake and FIFO allocation

Bullion receipts are recorded in the system and allocated to production jobs on a FIFO basis. How much gold went from which bullion into which job is on record.

Fine gold, fineness and karat engine

Gram, fine gold and millesimal fineness conversions are defined centrally in a single calculation engine; the same calculation returns the same result on every screen.

Model and variant management

One model opens into variants through karat, width and length combinations. The same product family is managed from a single card instead of fragmenting.

Order and production tracking

Work orders, production stages and shipping move through the same flow. The stage an order has reached is visible in the system at any moment.

Pricing and reference control

Customer-specific prices are defined, and a reference price control screen makes deviations visible. The source and the breakdown of a price are shown openly on screen.

Current account and consignment

Current account movements and consignment shipments are tracked separately, so goods sitting at a customer never get mixed up with goods that have been sold.

Hallmark and karat compliance check

Order lines are checked automatically against the customer's hallmark and karat match; a non-compliant record is caught before it reaches production.

Excel-based bulk operations

High-volume model and order lists are imported, updated and exported in bulk through Excel.

Permissions, training and B2B flow

User-level screen permissions, an in-app training and announcement system, and a notification flow for orders arriving from the B2B channel.

The Outcome

One single system instead of scattered spreadsheets.

The project was run not as a one-off installation but as continuous development aimed at making the entire operation visible. Today the whole process from manufacturing to shipping is tracked in the same system, and gram- and fine-gold-based calculations have moved out of hand-kept spreadsheets and into the software.

Because customer-specific prices and production status are managed from a single source, records that gave different answers to the same question on different screens are gone. The system is still in active use and continues to be developed as new needs arise.

  • The whole operation, from manufacturing to shipping, is traceable in one system
  • Gram and fine gold calculations moved into the software, reducing reliance on individuals
  • Customer-specific prices are managed from a single source
  • Bullion, weight and wastage movements are all on record
  • Repetitive manual routines have been automated
Technology & Scope

How was the system built?

To keep the rules from scattering, the calculation logic was gathered into a central layer, and the user interface was built on top of it.

LayerScope
ApplicationWeb-based enterprise application; secure access from the corporate network and remotely
Data layerMicrosoft SQL Server; calculation and validation rules managed centrally in stored procedures
Calculation engineGram, fine gold, millesimal fineness and karat conversions; price breakdown including stone and labour items
Data transferExcel-based bulk import and export; large lists processed in a single pass

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about jewelry ERP

Can an off-the-shelf ERP package not be used for jewelry manufacturing?
It can, but its limits show up quickly. Off-the-shelf packages count stock in units, while jewelry is discussed in grams, fine gold content and karat. The way one model turns into different products through karat, width and length combinations, the way price moves with the exchange rate and the fine gold value, and the need to track wastage at every stage are exactly the rules that packaged software tries to patch in afterwards. On the Gusto Gold project these rules were written into the core of the software.
How are gram, fine gold and millesimal fineness calculations handled in the software?
The conversions are defined centrally in a single calculation engine. Karat, fine gold and millesimal fineness equivalents, together with stone and labour items, all pass through the same rule set, so the same calculation returns the same result on every screen. Because figures that used to live in manually maintained spreadsheets now live in the software, the dependency on individual people disappears.
How is traceability from bullion to finished piece achieved?
The flow starts with bullion intake and is allocated to production jobs on a FIFO basis. Work orders, production stages and shipping move along the same chain, and weight, karat and wastage are recorded at every step. That makes it possible to see through the system how much gold went from which bullion into which job, and which stage an order has reached.
Could a similar production ERP be developed for our own business?
Yes. Our approach is not to force a ready-made package, but to move the company's own rules into the software. We start with process analysis, identify the priority modules and roll the system out in phases. We apply the same method in manufacturing industries outside jewelry as well.

Run your production by your own rules.

Let us work out together what can be done where ready-made packages do not fit. We will listen to your processes and define the scope and the timeline clearly.
